"For Bail Agents By Bail Agents - Advocates for Bail Legislation and Reform."

Update: August 31, 2005

I am happy to report that, thanks to the hard work of GSBAA’s board, officers, members and legislative advocate, AB 404 has passed the California Legislature.

The time is quickly approaching when bail agents will be able to fulfill their continuing education requirements at their leisure, from their offices. However we need to remain vigilant to insure that the bill will be signed into law by Governor Schwarzenegger.

Therefore, please complete this form letter [PDF], by signing and clearly printing your name and address at the bottom, then print and mail them to Governor Schwarzenegger as soon as possible. Your name and address is required because it shows which district you live in and how broad our support is. Please also FAX a copy to Kathy Lynch, our legislative advocate, at (916) 443-7353.

We recently commissioned a study on the effectiveness of bail in California by Professor Block of the University of Arizona. This study confirms the California bail industry’s critical role in promoting public safety, a role which has been overlooked by some law enforcement officials. This study gives us the evidence we need to educate the criminal justice system and to promote the bail industry in this state. You can view a copy of the study’s executive summary here.

We have retained the services of Lynch & Associates to mount a full court press in Sacramento to monitor and lobby issues related to bail. Kathy Lynch’s efforts were invaluable in the success of our legislative program including the defeat of SB 1744 and passage of AB 404.

Your input is needed for our 2006 legislative agenda. What would you like Our legislative priorities to be? Please send all comments to us in writing via email or regular mail. Click here for our contact information.
